Roger J. Medel, M.D.
Chief Executive Officer

Roger J. Medel, M.D. has been a Director since he co-founded the company in 1979. Dr. Medel served as President until May 2000 and as Chief Executive Officer to December 2002. In March 2003, Dr. Medel reassumed the position of President until May 2004 and Chief Executive Officer, a position in which he continues to serve today. Dr. Medel is a member of the Board of Trustees of the University of Miami. In addition, Dr. Medel participates as a member of several medical and professional organizations.

Joseph M. Calabro
President and Chief Operating Officer

Mr. Calabro joined the company in January 1996 as Chief Information Officer. In May 2004, he was appointed President. Mr. Calabro has also served as Chief Operating Officer since May 2000. Prior to joining the company, he was employed by Ambulatory Surgery Group of Columbia/HCA as Director of Information Technology from May 1994 to January 1996 and in various other operational and technology roles from 1987 to 1994.

Thomas W. Hawkins
Senior Vice President, General Counsel and Secretary

Mr. Hawkins joined the company in May 2003, with extensive senior management experience, both as a lawyer and in mergers and acquisitions. From January 2000 to April 2003, he was a partner with New River Capital Partners, L.P., a private equity firm. Mr. Hawkins previously served as Senior Vice President, Corporate Development, at Auto Nation, Inc. located in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, from June 1996 to December 1999. Mr. Hawkins received a bachelor’s degree from the University of Michigan and a law degree from Northwestern University.

Vivian Lopez-Blanco
Chief Financial Officer and Treasurer

Ms. Lopez-Blanco joined the company in May 2008 as Treasurer and was promoted to Chief Financial Officer in January 2010. Prior to joining the company, Ms. Lopez-Blanco was Chief Financial Officer of Carrols Corporation's Hispanic Restaurants Division, which includes the Pollo Tropical and Taco Cabana concepts.

Frederick V. Miller, M.D.
President, Pediatrix Division

Dr. Miller joined the company in 1991 and was appointed President of the Pediatrix Division in August 2008. Dr. Miller served as Regional President, Atlantic Region from January 2002 until August 2008. He previously served as Vice President of Medical Operations and as Regional Medical Officer for the Atlantic Region from January 2000 to December 2001. Prior to this appointment, Dr. Miller served as Medical Director for the Neonatal Intensive Care and Newborn Services in Virginia Beach, Virginia and Boca Raton, Florida as well as the Vice-Chairman of the Department of Pediatrics at a hospital in Boca Raton, Florida. Prior to joining Pediatrix, Dr. Miller served as the Neonatal Consultant to the Surgeon General's Office and the Medical Director of the Regional Neonatal and Perinatal Referral Center for Central Europe, US Army Medical Corps, Frankfurt, Germany. He is Board Certified in Pediatrics and Neonatal-Perinatal Medicine.

Dr. Miller received his medical degree from Emory University School of Medicine in Atlanta, Georgia and completed his pediatric residency at Tripler Army Medical Center in Honolulu, Hawaii and his neonatology fellowship at Children's National Medical Center and George Washington Medical Center in Washington, D.C. Dr. Miller holds a master of healthcare administration degree from the University of Colorado School of Business and a master's degree in business administration from California University School of Business and Management. Presently, Dr. Miller serves on the Board of Directors for Florida Atlantic University's Foundation and is the President-elect and Chairman of the Board, March of Dimes, State of Florida Chapter, in addition to serving in leadership roles for several other local and national organizations and companies.

Karl Wagner
President, American Anesthesiology

Karl B. Wagner has served as President, American Anesthesiology, since January 2010. Mr. Wagner joined the company in May 1997 and was appointed Chief Financial Officer and Treasurer in August 1998. Prior to his appointment, Mr. Wagner served as Controller. Prior to joining the company, Mr. Wagner was Chief Financial Officer for the East Region of Columbia/HCA's Ambulatory Surgery Group from January 1995 until May 1997. From July 1993 through January 1995, Mr. Wagner was Assistant Controller of Medical Care International, Inc., a subsidiary of Medical Care America, Inc.

Robert J. Balcom, M.D.
Regional President, Central Region

Dr. Balcom joined the company in 1993. Before his appointment as Regional President, Central Region in January 2002, Dr. Balcom served as Vice President of Medical Operations for the Central Region. Previously, Dr. Balcom was Medical Director for a neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) in Virginia Beach, Virginia and was an associate neonatologist in clinical practice for eight years at a Level III Unit in Elmira, New York. He is Board Certified in Pediatrics and Neonatal-Perinatal Medicine.

Dr. Balcom received his medical degree from the State University of New York Health Sciences Center in Syracuse, New York and completed his internship and residency training at St. Christopher's Hospital for Children in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He received post-doctoral training in neonatology at the State University of New York in Syracuse. Dr. Balcom received a master's degree in business administration from the College of William and Mary in Williamsburg, Virginia. He has been a delegate to the Medical Society of Virginia and has been extensively involved in formulating guidelines for Neonatal Practice in the Commonwealth of Virginia.

Robert C. Bryant
Senior Vice President and Chief Information Officer

Mr. Bryant joined the company in 1996 as Director of Applications. In January 2000, he was promoted to the position of Vice President and Chief Information Officer. From 1997 to January 2000, he served as Director, Information Services. Prior to joining the company, Mr. Bryant was Applications Manager at Columbia/HCA's Ambulatory Surgery Division. He holds a master's degree in business administration from Bryant College in Smithfield, Rhode Island.

David A. Clark
Chief Operating Officer, Pediatrix Division

Mr. Clark joined the company in May 2001 through the acquisition of Magella Healthcare. He was appointed Chief Operating Officer of the Pediatrix Division in August 2008. Mr. Clark had previously served as Senior Vice President, Operations from December 2003 until August 2008. He was Vice President of Operations, South Central Region from November 2001 to November 2003 and as Vice President of Development for Magella Healthcare from January 1999 until May 2001. Earlier in his career, he held various senior management positions and spent five years with the accounting firm Coopers & Lybrand. Mr. Clark received a bachelor's degree in accounting from Texas A&M University. He is also a Certified Public Accountant.

Steve C. Collins
Senior Vice President, Business Development

Mr. Collins joined the company in July 2003 as Vice President, Business Development, and was promoted to Senior Vice President in January 2010. From April 2001 to July 2003, he was Director with KPMG Corporate Finance, LLC. Prior to that, Mr. Collins served with Auto Nation, Inc. as Vice President, Corporate Development from 1998 to 2001 and as Director from 1996 to 1998. He held management positions with Baxter International, Inc. and W.R. Grace, Inc. between 1991 and 1996. Mr. Collins holds a bachelor's degree from the University of Maryland and a master's degree in business administration from Pepperdine University.

William C. Hawk
Senior Vice President, American Anesthesiology

Mr. Hawk began working with the company in 2005. He was appointed Senior Vice President of Operations, Anesthesia Services, in May 2006. Prior to joining the company, Mr. Hawk was founder and CEO of SHC Companies, Inc., a healthcare services company and was a Senior Vice President with Medical Care America, Inc., from 1992 to 1995. He holds an undergraduate degree from Northeastern University and a master's degree in business administration from Loyola College.

Eric H. Kurzweil, M.D.
Regional President, Mountain Region

Dr. Kurzweil joined the company in 1996 through the acquisition of his practice. This acquisition launched the Company's operations in the State of Colorado. Dr. Kurzweil was appointed Regional President, Mountain Region in January 2002. He previously served as Vice President of Medical Operations, Mountain Region. Prior to this appointment, Dr. Kurzweil served as Medical Director of a Pediatric Trauma Service and several pediatric intensive care units in Colorado. In addition, he was responsible for pediatric hospital-based care and the hospitalists serving other Denver area hospitals. He is Board Certified in Pediatrics and Pediatric Critical Care.

Dr. Kurzweil received his medical degree from the University of Miami School of Medicine and completed his residency training at Jackson Memorial Hospital in Miami, Florida. He received post-doctoral training in pediatric critical care at The Children's Hospital in Denver, Colorado. Dr. Kurzweil also holds a master's degree in business administration from the University of Colorado. He has served as Assistant Clinical Professor for the Department of Family Medicine at the University of Colorado Health Science Center.

Alan B. Oliver
Regional President, Atlantic Region

Mr. Oliver joined the company in 2000. Before his promotion to President of the Atlantic Region in August 2008, Mr. Oliver served as the Vice President of Operations of the Atlantic Region from 2002. Previously, Mr. Oliver was the Director of Finance until 2003. Prior to joining the company, Mr. Oliver was the CFO and Corporate Controller with the South Broward Hospital District for 11 years. Prior to that, he worked in the public accounting sector. Mr. Oliver is a graduate from Temple University in Philadelphia PA with a major in Finance and Accounting. He received his Executive MBA and MHA from Nova Southeastern University in 1994.

Carlos A. Pérez, M.D.
Regional President, Caribbean Region

Dr. Pérez has been a member of Pediatrix since 1986. He was appointed Regional President, Caribbean Region in January 2002. From 1997 until his recent appointment, Dr. Pérez served as Vice President, Medical Operations. He also served as medical director of several neonatal and pediatric intensive care units in Florida and Puerto Rico. He is Board Certified in Pediatrics, Neonatal-Perinatal Medicine and Pediatric Critical Care .

Dr. Pérez completed his pediatric residency training at Stanford University Medical Center in Stanford, California and his neonatology fellowship training at the Children's Hospital of Los Angeles. Dr. Pérez also completed a fellowship in Pediatric Critical Care at the University of California, San Francisco. Throughout his career with Pediatrix, Dr. Pérez has been instrumental in developing new service areas and expanding services in existing markets. He serves as a board member in several civic and business organizations in Puerto Rico.

Alan R. Spitzer, M.D.
Senior Vice President and Director
The Center for Research, Education and Quality

Alan R. Spitzer, M.D., a prominent neonatal researcher and academician, joined the company in July 2004, and oversees clinical research as well as continuing medical education and clinical quality initiatives.

Dr. Spitzer has authored a popular neonatal textbook, Intensive Care of the Fetus and Newborn, and collaborated on more than 200 peer-reviewed research articles and textbook chapters. He was a practicing neonatologist for more than 25 years, and served as Chief of the Division of Neonatology at the State University of New York at Stony Brook, and as Professor of Pediatrics at Stony Brook prior to joining the company.

Michael Stanley, M.D.
Regional President, South Central Region

Dr. Stanley joined the company in 1997 through the acquisition of his practice and was appointed as Regional President, South Central Region in January 2002. Prior to this appointment, he served as Vice President of Medical Operations for the South Central Region. Dr. Stanley also served as the Medical Director of a NICU in Fort Worth, Texas and as Corporate Medical Director, where he was responsible for all of the hospital-based care and physicians in the Fort Worth area hospitals for Pediatrix. He is Board Certified in Pediatrics and Neonatal-Perinatal Medicine.

Dr. Stanley received his medical degree from the University of Oklahoma College of Medicine in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma and completed his pediatric residency and neonatology fellowship training at Wilford Hall USAF Medical Center in Lackland, Texas. Dr. Stanley served in the US Air Force for nine years and achieved the rank of Major. He also served as a Clinical Assistant Professor of Family Practice at Southwestern Medical School and was instrumental in developing and managing several neonatal intensive care services in the Fort Worth area, as well as the neonatal transport team at Cook Children's Medical Center, one of the busiest transport services in the nation. In 2001, Dr. Stanley earned a master's degree in business administration from Baylor University in Dallas, Texas.

Gary Twiggs, M.D.
Regional President, Pacific Region

Dr. Twiggs joined the company in 1999 through the acquisition of his practice. He was appointed Regional President, Pacific Region in February 2009. Previously, Dr. Twiggs served as Vice President and Chief Medical Officer, Pacific Region from 2007 to 2009 and  Vice President of Business Development from January 2002 to 2007.  He also practiced neonatology in Seattle, Washington and was a Clinical Assistant Professor of Pediatrics at the University of Washington Medical Center in Seattle. Dr. Twiggs is board certified in Pediatrics and Neonatal-Perinatal Medicine.
