According to Washington state health care officials, COVID-19 cases are increasing at an alarming rate, with high volumes of pregnant women among them. Tanya Sorensen, M.D., maternal-fetal medicine specialist at Obstetrix Medical Group – Issaquah and executive medical director of women’s health at Swedish Health Services, believes this is because pregnant women are typically less likely to be vaccinated. “We’re seeing ICU admissions, maternal deaths, babies born prematurely either to helps the mother breathe or rescue the baby,” she said. “It’s really heartbreaking. Pregnant women need to be vaccinated.”
