The disease is highly contagious yet completely preventable. Dr. Wayment says simple prevention is key – making sure your child is up-to-date on all childhood shots. While it can be treated with antibiotics, Wayment says it is important to seek treatment immediately. In infants, whooping cough can be fatal.
