As several states across the country lift their mask mandates, those who haven’t received the COVID-19 vaccine are urged to wear masks and practice social distancing in certain circumstances. This is particularly important for children under 12 years old, for which a vaccine is not yet available. “The CDC guidance hasn’t changed so far, so if children are unvaccinated, they should continue to mask until we get more information,” said Dr. Zachary Hoy, Pediatrix-affiliated pediatric infectious disease specialist at Nashville Pediatric Infectious Disease in Tennessee.
