In this article, Kent Thomas, Vice President of Solutions and Business Development for vRad, a MEDNAX company, discusses the data analytics initiative vRad undertook to better understand and manage their practice. After an extensive effort to build an analytics engine that could standardize and normalize the data, vRad had the preliminary tools necessary to carefully examine their practice. Since that initial exercise, they’ve augmented their capabilities, adding meaningful attributes and even Natural Language Processing (NLP) to turn that data into useful information. They’ve made operational changes and decisions aimed at making their practice—and those of their clients—more accurate, efficient and profitable. vRad now proactively manages their practice with a firm grasp of the issues and forces affecting it. It’s a model that, now more than ever, is the future of radiology.
