This Thanksgiving will be extra sweet for the family of baby Pearly Jo (PJ), the youngest survivor at Baylor Scott & White Medical Center in McKinney, Texas. Born at 23 weeks weighing just one pound, doctors said Pearly Jo stunned them in every way. She’s among the 15 percent of micro preemies who are released without major health problems. After spending 136 days in the NICU, PJ is now home just in time for the holiday. “Our baby Pearly Jo beat all the odds,” said Dr. Arpitha Chiruvolu, MEDNAX-affiliated neonatologist and NICU medical director. “I told the parents that there will be ups and downs, there will be good days, there will be bad days and we need to go through them together,” Chiruvolu said.
