Normally performed on younger patients, recent research confirms that the Nuss procedure is now considered safe and effective for adults suffering from sunken chest, a congenital condition that can restrict the heart and lungs, leading to heart palpitations, chest pain, respiratory infections and difficulty exercising. MEDNAX-affiliated pediatric surgeon, Dr. Corey Iqbal, who has done the corrective procedure more than 50 times on kids, recently performed an adult surgery at Overland Park Regional Medical Center in Overland Park, Kan. and is now ready to start offering the procedure in Kansas City and beyond. “There’s a lot of people living with this who don’t realize there are options,” said Iqbal. “We can do it right here. We have the technical know-how, and we’ve got all of the adult specialists.”
