In this news article, 13 year-old Caleb needed to undergo open-heart surgery to fix his congenital heart defect, tetralogy of Fallot. Caleb’s parents were thrilled to learn that MEDNAX-affiliated pediatric cardiologist, Dr. Jeremy Ringewald could repair the boy’s heart without the need for an incision. Caleb was the 100th patient at St. Joseph’s Heart Institute to receive a transcatheter pulmonary valve. After inserting a catheter into a vein in the upper leg, Dr. Ringewald guided a new valve up to Caleb’s heart and replaced his dysfunctional pulmonary valve.
