A donation from Pediatrix Medical Group, a MEDNAX company, has immediately gone into action to benefit the patients of the Studer Family Children’s Hospital at Ascension Sacred Heart in Pensacola, Fla., providing a higher level of privacy and intimate care in the new hospital’s neonatal intensive care unit (NICU). Pediatrix collaborated with the Children’s Hospital to create the region’s only level III NICU, which cares for the most critically ill and premature newborns. “What it does is it creates a space for the family to really be able to be there and to be present for the care of their babies, said Dr. Ramak Amjad, MEDNAX-affiliated neonatologist. “It’s a very patient-centric and family-centric environment.” Dr. Amjad believes the new Pediatrix NICU and the developing Sacred Heart facility is further establishing the Children’s Hospital as one of the country’s very best. “We’re able to keep babies in Pensacola and provide them the same care they would get in Atlanta, Miami, New York, anywhere. This is world-class care that they get here.”
