Arizona twins, Dakota and Alexia Neal, meet the doctor who saved their lives before they were born, MEDNAX-affiliated maternal-fetal medicine specialist, Dr. Martin Walker, at Eastside Maternal-Fetal Medicine at Evergreen Health in Kirkland, Wash. Nineteen weeks into their mother’s pregnancy, the twins were diagnosed with Twin to Twin Transfusion Syndrome (TTTS), which happens when one twin has a low level of amniotic fluid and the other has an excessive amount. TTTS is potentially life-threatening for both twins. Dr. Walker successfully performed an in-utero surgery separated the babies’ blood supply, and the next day, the Neal family returned to Arizona. Now, the twins are thriving 11-year-olds.
