Addressing children’s otolaryngology (ENT) issues

Pediatric otolaryngology focuses on diagnosing and treating conditions affecting the ears, nose, throat, head, neck and face. Approximately 30 million trips to the pediatrician each year in the United States stem from ear infections alone. This, in part, is because a child’s ears, nose and throat aren’t fully developed until around age 6 and, therefore, may not function properly, leading to otolaryngology issues. Ear infections are one of numerous reasons infants, children and adolescents may require care from an otolaryngologist, more commonly known as an ENT specialist.

At Pediatrix® Medical Group, our board-certified pediatric ENTs treat children with common to complex otolaryngology conditions. In addition to obtaining a medical degree, they also complete a five-year residency program and fellowship training in large children’s hospitals.

Bringing expertise and compassion to pediatric patients, our pediatric ENTs treat, manage and provide quality, family-friendly otolaryngology care to children facing various issues, including:

  • Ear — Infections, hearing loss and impairment, perforated eardrums, deafness, ear lesions, external ear abnormalities.
  • Nose — Noisy breathing, snoring/enlarged tonsils, nosebleeds, nasal deformities, sinus infections, sleep apnea, nasal fractures.
  • Throat — Snoring/enlarged tonsils, cleft lip/cleft palate, laryngopharyngeal reflux, tonsillitis, hoarseness, head and neck masses and tumors, abnormal voice/speech, thyroid/parathyroid disease, vocal cord paralysis/subglottic stenosis.
  • Head/neck/face — Diseases, tumors, trauma, deformities. In addition to providing medical treatment, our ENTs perform surgery when required. They partner with local hospitals, where they typically perform operations.
