About Us

For over three decades, American Anesthesiology of Virginia-Loudoun has been providing expert clinical anesthesia services to Inova Loudoun Hospital, including Inova Loudoun Ambulatory Surgery Center (ILASC) and the Inova Hospital Birthing Inn obstetric unit.

Treating more than 22,000 patients each year, we help comfort those experiencing pain and ease the fear of surgery for adults and children. We are involved in your care from the beginning — from pre-surgical evaluation on through to surgery and post anesthesia recovery. Additionally, we provide care outside of the operating room, specifically at Inova Heart and Vascular Institute at Loudoun Hospital, where we administer anesthesia services for cardiac procedures. We also care for patients at Inova Loudoun Hospital’s Birthing Inn who request pain relief during child birth.

Our mission is to provide quality and compassionate health care accessible to the entire Loudoun community. We support the mission of our partner hospitals We are dedicated to the creation of a continually improving quality health care team that seeks to exceed the expectations of our patients, physician colleagues and hospital leadership.

A team approach to care

Our team consists of 12 board certified anesthesiology physicians and 30 certified registered nurse anesthetists (CRNAs).

An anesthesiologist is a physician who has completed an undergraduate degree plus four years each of medical school and then residency training in the medical specialty of anesthesiology. Many anesthesiologists have additional experience or fellowship training in anesthesiology specialties, including obstetric anesthesia, pediatric anesthesia, cardiac anesthesia, pain medicine, critical care management and neuroanesthesia.

A certified registered nurse anesthetist (CRNA) is an advanced practice registered nurse who has earned a graduate level degree focusing on anesthesia. This includes extensive clinical training and board certification. A CRNA is trained to provide anesthesia to patients in practice settings and surgery with a high degree of autonomy and professional respect.

Our anesthesiologists and CRNAs worked collaboratively in a medically directed model to provide high quality, compassionate care to all our patients. We work closely with your surgeons and hospital staff to ensure high quality care for all members of the community.
