For Dr. Tovah Buikema, medicine was more than a career choice – it was a true calling. “There was not a day in my life when I wanted to be anything other than a physician,” she says. “From a young age I was always fascinated by pregnancy and childbirth. As I went through my training, I became very interested in ultrasound, prenatal diagnosis and fetal development.” Her patients are the heart of her practice. “Our recommendations are always made with the patient at the center of the plan, in hopes of the achieving the best outcome we can for both mom and baby,” Dr. Buikema explains. “I use the most up to date evidence and literature to help guide and construct their treatment plan.”
Having experienced high-risk pregnancy firsthand, Dr. Buikema truly understands what it means to be “on the other side of the table,” and she brings that empathy and understanding to every aspect of her patients’ care.
