Dr. David Brennen joined Pediatric Cardiology Associates in 2011. He was born and raised in western New York near Niagara Falls, NY. After attending college in Pennsylvania and medical school in Buffalo, NY, he completed his pediatrics residency in San Antonio. Dr. Brennen then served in the U.S. Army including a 13 month combat tour in Iraq. He was awarded a Bronze Star for his service. His military career was highlighted by being named Outstanding Young Pediatrician of the Year (2008, American Academy of Pediatrics, U.S. Army Chapter).

After completing his military service, Dr. Brennen moved to Rochester, NY for his fellowship in pediatric cardiology and Adult Congenital Heart Disease. Dr. Brennen sees a wide variety of patients from babies with newly diagnosed heart conditions to adults with congenital heart defects. He is also experienced in evaluation and management of pediatric patients with cardiac risk factors such as high cholesterol or blood pressure.

Dr. Brennen’s particular area of expertise is in exercise testing and exercise related concerns. Utilizing metabolic testing techniques, he is able to identify both cardiac and pulmonary conditions that may impact exercise capacity or performance. This type of testing also helps identify factors that may affect a patient’s long-term health or fitness.

“Patients with heart conditions, especially those born with heart defects, have a lot of questions about what they are safe to do and what are their capabilities,” says Dr. Brennen. “My goal is to identify limitations, address them, and encourage my patients to be as active as possible in a safe manner.”

When not at work, Dr. Brennen enjoys spending time with his wife and two sons. His hobbies include sports, music, and movies.
