Dr. Bernus was born in Girona (Catalonia, Spain) and first came to the United States at age 16 as a high school exchange student. She graduated from the University of California at Berkeley with a degree in molecular and cell biology. She began medical school at the Universidad Autonoma de Guadalajara under the Fifth Pathway Program, completing her medical degree at the New York Medical College in 2001. Dr. Bernus completed her pediatrics residency at the Children’s Hospital of Los Angeles in 2004. She completed her pediatric cardiology fellowship training at the Children’s Hospital in Denver where she remained as an instructor in the Department of Pediatric Cardiology.

Dr. Bernus moved to California in 2007 to join the Loma Linda University Medical Center staff as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Pediatric Cardiology. Her work focuses on both, invasive cardiology including diagnostic and interventional cardiac catheterizations, as well as non-invasive cardiology. She is also interested in idiopathic and associated pulmonary arterial hypertension.

Dr. Bernus is an active member of Heart Care International and Surgeons of Hope, with which she has done several missions to Africa and Central America providing cardiac care to children. Dr. Bernus moved to the Tampa Bay area in the summer of 2009 when she joined Pediatric Cardiology Associates.
