Dr. Martinez was born and raised in Tampa, Florida. He graduated from Jesuit High School in Tampa, completed undergraduate studies at the University of Florida, and graduated from the University of South Florida, College of Medicine. He moved to Cincinnati, Ohio, to complete his residency in pediatrics and a fellowship in pediatric cardiology at the Children's Hospital Medical Center.
Dr. Martinez then moved back to Tampa Bay to join Pediatric Cardiology Associates and the department of pediatrics at the University of South Florida, College of Medicine in 1986. Since that time, Dr. Martinez has served as the Director of Non-Invasive Cardiology at All Children's Hospital, 1992-1999; the Chief of Staff at All Children's Hospital, 2000-2001, and most recently as the Division Chief of Pediatric Cardiology of All Children’s Hospital, 2005 – 2012.
Dr. Martinez's primary interests are Adult Congenital Heart Disease, Echocardiography, Cardio-pulmonary Exercise Testing. In addition, he has co-developed a program for adults with congenital heart disease; as a result continuing the care for children with congenital heart disease into adulthood.
