Dr. Huhta received his master's degree in bioengineering from the University of Michigan and his medical degree from the University of Wisconsin. He completed his pediatric residency at the University of Alabama and his pediatric cardiology fellowship training at Mayo Clinic. He was an Honorary Senior Registrar at the Hospital for Sick Children in London and after six years at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, he was recruited by the University of Pennsylvania as Professor of Pediatrics and became Chief of Pediatric Cardiology Services at Children's Hospital of Philadelphia. He started the Section of Perinatal Cardiology at Pennsylvania Hospital, our nation's first hospital. In 1996, Dr. Huhta moved to Tampa Bay where he is a member of the Congenital Heart Institute of Florida. He provides care at St. Joseph's Hospital in Tampa and serves as medical director of the perinatal program at All Children's Hospital in St. Petersburg. He is also a Professor at University of Tromso, Norway and University of Florida.
Dr. Huhta was awarded the University of South Florida's Daicoff-Andrews Endowed Chair in Perinatal Cardiology from 2003-2008. He has authored over 225 articles, books and chapters, and his newest book with Drs. Bader and Hornberger is titled The Perinatal Cardiology Handbook. In July 2008, he joined the Pediatrix team and is currently the lead physician in the fetal echocardiography network.
