Dr. Lewis received his medical and pediatric residency training at the University of Illinois at Chicago, where he also served as chief resident in pediatrics. He received fellowship training in pediatric cardiology at Hope Children's Hospital (also in Chicago) and then joined the cardiac team at Miami Children's Hospital for specialized training in the care of critically ill cardiac children and in interventional catheterization (the use of certain devices to achieve results without surgery). After several years he proceeded to the University of Miami/Jackson Memorial Hospital complex where he assumed the directorship of the Pediatric Cardiac Intensive Care Team. His experience with sudden cardiac death, the management of arrhythmia (abnormal heart beats), and competitive college athletics also allowed him to develop an interest and following in the area of sports participation screening and cardiac care for athletes.
Following 10 years of caring for the most critical infants and children in South Florida, Dr. Lewis joined the private practice community of Miami and Broward counties where he further developed his interest in the evaluation of competitive athletes and also fetal echocardiography (the evaluation of children yet to be born with potential congenital heart problems or abnormal heart rhythms). Dr. Lewis joined Pediatrix Cardiology in January 2009.
